FAQ about Virtual AssistantsHow much does it cost to become a member? Our service is free. What are Premium, and Premium Gold listings? We used to allow members to purchase Premium and Premium Gold listings. However we have made the decision to make our service free and to return results based on how relevant they are to the employers search and how recently the member is known to have been active. This seems fairer as not all members can afford to pay, and it ensures employers see those members most likely to meet their needs first. If we help employers to consistently find what they are looking for, we hope this will ultimately benefit everyone. Those members that have paid for 12 months Premium or Premium Gold listing continue to be returned at the top of the results until their 12 month paid listing expires. After this their listing will be returned using the same criteria as for all other members. What decides the order in which members profiles are returned on searches? The first criteria are that the skills match what the employer is looking for. If the employer restricts their search to a Region, such as 'Wales' or 'South East' then only members in that Region are returned. If the employer searches the whole UK or globally, then all members offering the skills are returned. Members who have logged in most recently are also returned before members that have not logged in for a long time, as active members are most likely to be seeking work if a job is offered. I can't find any jobs advertised for my skills. Why not? Employer members can change the setting in their profiles to indicate whether they are actively seeking an Assistant at that time. Some Employers may post their requirements for just a short time and then remove it while they are reviewing the candidates that responded. The majority of Employers however tend to search themselves using the Find a Virtual Assistant search. They then select suitable candidates and contact them directly. Why haven't I received any enquiries to my profile? Employers are searching our site all the time. We are the largest virtual assistant service in the UK. If you are not receiving any enquiries, you may need to consider the following. Go to the web site without logging in, and use the link 'Find a Virtual Assistant' to search for one of the skills you are offering. The chances are that there are a lot of other members also offering your skill. So you have competition. The choice of candidates is why Employers use our service; the other reason is the quality of candidates. Take a look at the profiles of other members. Employers will make their initial decision on a short list of candidates based on presentation, spelling, choice of screen name, and overall impression. Run your profile through a UK spell checker - poor spelling and grammar will ruin your chances. Write a few paragraphs with proper punctuation and explain your qualities; a list of bullet point facts may suggest you cannot be bothered to make an effort. Even your screen name needs consideration; is it serious, or does it make you look frivolous. Employers have a sense of humour, but they are in a business frame of mind when they are searching for someone to work for them. So take a good look at your profile and remember that the Employers are not short of choice. Don't select lots of skills and sectors just in the hope of being found on lots of searches. Select skills that you are really qualified to provide. Also, read our FAQ question elsewhere on this page which addresses what determines the order in which members are returned on searches. Finally, if you've read this, and the other relevant FAQ, you have improved your chances. Many people will skip reading the FAQ page, so you've learned some things that other members will not have read. We hope this helps you - good luck. What information about me is shown on the website? Your name and contact details remain confidential. These are only provided to another member after you have agreed that your details be made available to them. I can't see my profile that has been submitted Listings are moderated. Please allow time for a Moderator to approve any online listing. During business hours this is normally the same day, but at busy periods or if submitted outside working hours it may not be approved until the next working day. How to I communicate with another member? Contact Credits enable you to contact another Member. These are free, so you simply add more Credits whenever you need them. We include this as part of the process to discourage automated spamming of our members. When you contact another Member a Credit is deducted, and an email goes to the other Member. They then look at your profile, and click a link in the email to indicate whether or not they would like to share contact details with you. When they make their choice, you receive an email back telling you their response. If they respond positively, you and the other Member can both login and see each others contact details on your profiles. If the other Member declines your invitation, or does not respond within 72 hours, your Contact Credit is refunded - you do not lose the Credit. You can keep using it again until you receive a positive response. How much will a Virtual Assistant charge? Rates and fees are negotiated by each individual Virtual Assistant and employer. Can I work with more than one Assistant or Employer? Yes, you can work with as many members as you wish. Who is responsible for matters such as income tax or other aspects of employment? All matters in respect of tax and National Insurance, or any other financial or legal aspects of employment law, are the responsibility of the employer and the person employed as determined by the type and nature of the employment. I am a Virtual Assistant and wonder if I should be a Limited Company? You should consult a qualified accountant who can advise on whether it will be more tax efficient for you to trade as a Limited company. If you do decide to form a company this can now be done online in a matter of hours without any complicated paperwork. One such service is Company House (not the Companies House registry in Cardiff). The Company House service is an online company formation service which is especially cost effective for small businesses and individuals as there is no VAT added on to the quoted price. How do I stop receiving emails from Virtual Assistants? To stop receiving emails from other members wishing to exchange contact details to discuss a job, login to your account, and go to 'View/Amend Your Details'. If you are an Employer, for Your Current Status select 'No requirement'. If you are an Assistant select 'No thanks' for both email alert options. You can change these settings at any time.
