Tips to Help Employers Choose You

If you are really serious about an employer choosing you, please do not ignore the following advice. We see profiles every day which we know are unlikely to be selected by any employers because they are simply not following these guidelines.

  • Don't tick more skills and sector experience than you really have. If an employer is looking for a specific skill, they choose candidates that have the selection of skills they need, in preference to candidates that are 'Jack of all trades'.
  • Don't place your contact details in your online profile. Our moderators will remove your account if you do.
  • Don't use false names in order to open up multiple accounts. Your real name is not shown on the public search, but if an employer selects you they will naturally need to know your real name for payment or contract purposes. If your real name does not match the name you have provided, employers may consider this suspicious and may decide not to work with you.
  • Don't use ALL CAPS for your profile, or just list your skills; both give the impression that your typing skills are lacking, or that you are not motivated enough to put together a few sentences.
  • Do not enter a full CV with work history. This is not what is required, and not what employers are looking for on your profile. If they want the formal CV, they will ask for it later on.
  • The best profiles are those that show a member can type, spell, and which tell employers about your skills and qualities.
  • Please limit your profile to around 150-200 words. Most employers select a number of potential candidates and quickly scan the profiles for the key points, so don't make it too long.
